A Silent Presence

This talk celebrates and explores Silvia’s Hazl’s striking body of work. She studied painting & sculpture in Paris and Brussels and her work is widley exhibited and held in numerous international collections. She lives and works as a  sculptor and performance artist in Belgium and Germany.

Silvia Hatzl is an artist who speaks from her deep inner-self. She finds, touches, caress, forms, heats, ashes and smells the materials she uses. Rather than having a concept, to her, creating is like writing a poem in the hands of time. Each of her work has a particular persona or a narrative giving  an account of our complex and contradictory experiences  as human beings. Silk, skin, bone, paper, plaster wool and cotton in combination with ash, sand, pigments, blood and rust are transformed into  stunning sculptural forms. Executed with great skill and attention to detail they have an imaginative nature and an organic playfulness, however, there is always an undercurrent of a deeper meaning.
