Collections are at the heart of museums and define the work museum professionals perform. Acquiring artworks or objects, delivering an extensive loans programme, caring for large collections as well as the ethics behind disposals are complex aspects and consequently have an impact on the museum's financial and human resources.  This talk examines the implications of new acquisitions, lending and de-accessioning works of art from museums collection and explores a number of case studies.
