The Power of Art #106 Chris Christophorou Freedom & Limitation

Share

Interweaving the freedom and limitation of the materials he uses permits him to explore their attributes and interplays; this is a significant characteristic of his painterly craft.

Rather than having a very standardised way of painting, Christophorou’s expressive pictorial metaphors can be lauded for their material experimentation. His panache hovers between fluidity and elegance, resulting in different pattern rhythms on the rough sandpaper surfaces. They focus primarily on capturing feelings and moods, thoughts or attitudes, and have a quality of being spontaneous - striking a chord with Helen Frankenthaler’s statement: "A really good picture looks as if it's happened at once."
