The Power of Art #90 Lucia Buceta & Dominic Beattie ‘Umbrella Paintings’

Share

Lucia Buceta's  and  Dominic Beattie's joyous and multicoloured umbrella paintings are united in a spinning dance, floating over a white wall in the Saatchi Gallery, London. Choreographed by the artists, the parasols give the impression of being in constant movement like whirling dervishes.

Each umbrella painting represents an octagon, consisting of eight sides, eight vertices and eight interior angels. The ‘Umbrella Painting’ series is the first artistic collaboration between Buceta and Beattie, where they created colourful and charming patterns with stencils, tape and spraying techniques before the individual panels are carefully assembled and stitched together by an experienced upholsterer.

In the past octagons were religious symbols of rebirth and resurrection, in this instance Buceta's and Beattie’s compositions remind of happy and carefree days.
