WAYS OF SEEING

Waltham Forest,  London's first Borough of Culture made a bold move when it engaged in an innovative arts project with the aim of displaying paintings, sculptures, time-based media installations and works on paper at schools, leisure centres, a hospital and a riding lodge located within the borough.  We are delighted to announce that Renée Pfister Art & Gallery Consultancy was engaged to advise the Government Art Collection and Waltham Forest Council on insurance and installation issues as well as Health & Safety and emergency planning as part of the delivery of this exciting programme.

Traditionally the collection of the Government Art Collection is exhibited at Embassies and High Commissions around the world. In this instance an exception was made and sixty-three artworks were lent to twenty-eight venues across the Borough of Waltham Forest.

Arts Minister Michael Ellis said: "The Government Art Collection promotes the best of Britain to the world. The work on display in Waltham Forest has been chosen to reflect the diversity and creativity of the area. I am delighted that we can share these important cultural assets as we mark the first London Borough of Culture."

A NEW CULTURAL VENUE IN CROATIA

We are privileged to collaborate with a private client who is working towards creating a new cultural foundation in Croatia.  Our support is focused on providing a sustainable business model for the foundation and all operational aspects of museums and exhibition management. The planning permission for the new building has been granted and the construction will commence in early autumn.

SOTHEBY'S INSTITUTE OF ART  -  ORGANISING AND DELIVERING INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITIONS

In July, Renée Pfister will present a talk at Sotheby's Institute of Art Foundations in Curating Programme. The course offers an overview of curating in an international art scene that has never been more diverse. As a long-standing art professional, it is enriching to share knowledge and experiences gained over the years with participants who endeavouring to enter this field or up-skill and enhance their career profile.

EMERGING PATTERNS - SAM HODGE - ARTIST IN FOCUS - MAY 2019

Patterns of growth and disintegration are the focus of Sam Hodge’s work with paint and print. Materials are constantly morphing, and new forms emerge from simple physical processes such as erosion, compression, fracture and flow – repeated and complex - but always different. Her depictions are like poems attempting to stir our imagination and emotions, reflecting on life's uncertainty and creating new meaning.  Hodge is interested in our response to the shifting and unstable nature of our material world, our attempts to understand, control, collect and endow matter with significance.

BORN DEAD - CHRIS TILLE - ARTIST IN FOCUS - JUNE 2019

Created with an artificial neural network, Chris Tille´s series of portraits titled 'Born Dead' are immediately unsettling in their conceptual and visual message. Two computer systems, working together and correcting each other completely unaided, generated 30,000 images from data alone. Faces from numbers, eyes from ones and zeros, expressions from equations – this is an amazing and shocking new dimension.  Our mind and senses struggle to distinguish between reality and a constructed truth - so called fake news. We would scarcely recognise that these depictions are forged and do not exist, they only manifest themselves through Tille's representations.
